With the support of Church Mission Society, UK, the ‘Young Christian Leaders Conference’ for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Province was held on 9 – 12 February 2012, at the Diocesan Centre, Peshawar. The Conference was organized by the ‘Youth Christian Leaders Network’, and hosted by the Youth Desk of the Peshawar Diocese. About 40 young leaders from various Diocesan Parishes, and participants from other denominations/organizations also attended the Conference.
The Rt. Revd. Humphrey S. Peters, Bishop of Peshawar, led the Opening Session of the Conference, and the topic was, “Sharing your Faith”. The Bishop in his session said that one can demonstrate his/her faith through personal character, so casino pa natet that people may recognize us as Christians, and all we need is to develop Christian traits in our character.
Revd. Phil Simpson, the Regional Director (Asia), CMS-UK, was also among the keynote speakers. He led a Plenary Session on “Life of Prophet Daniel”, which was very inspiring and relevant in the context of leadership, his other session was about “Christian Mission”. Mr. Aamir Shahzad, the Country Representative of CMS, led two workshops on “Resource Mobilization” and “Basics of Project Management”. The Rt. Revd. Ernest Jacob of the Anglican Orthodox Church also led a plenary session on “Christian Persecution”. Mr. Sunil Sheroon led workshops on “Spiritual Leadership” and “Team Building”, whereas, Mr. Insar Gohar, the Diocesan Youth Officer, led a session on “Volunteer Management”.
To encourage the youth and the organisors, the Bishop of Peshawar threw a ‘Dinner Party’ for all the participants and the organisors. A cultural folk musical programme was also arranged for the guests, whereas, the youth members also presented some skits and funny items.
Out-come of the Conference
During the Conference various issues of youth were discussed and a ‘Panel Discussion’ was especially conducted to address issues faced by the youth in today’s world.
This Conference helped the participants to grow in confidence as young Christian leaders. The participants from all over the province said, “through this training our confidence and awareness has been enhanced and positively developed”.
